What to Expect at Your Free Demo Class

We’re so excited to welcome you to Tracie’s Music Together^®! Your free demo class is a chance to experience the joy of making music together and see what our program is all about.

Before You Come

Your class day, time, and location will be included in your confirmation email, so please double-check those details before heading to class.

A few things to know:

• Please introduce yourself to your teacher when you arrive and let them know you’re joining us for a free demo class. We can’t wait to meet you!

• Outdoor classes: Please bring a blanket or yoga mat for you and your child to sit on.

• Indoor classes: Please leave snacks and toys tucked away during class. We want the children to be able to focus on the music, instruments, and each other!

• Grownups are always welcome! Feel free to bring another parent, grandparent, caregiver, or other special grownup with you.

• Bringing a sibling? Please be sure to register them as well. Babies under 8 months may attend free with their registered sibling.

• Double-check your mobile phone number. If we ever need to cancel or make a last-minute change due to weather or another unexpected circumstance, we’ll notify you by text.

• While you’re waiting for your first class, download the Music Together® app on your smartphone and start listening! Becoming familiar with the music before class makes it even more fun when you hear the songs together.

Trying Class With a Baby? Here’s What to Expect

The Music Together experts in Princeton, New Jersey, remind us that music is a language. Just as babies learn to speak by being surrounded by language and interacting with the people who love them, they begin learning the language of music by experiencing it in a joyful, nurturing environment.

In class, we “speak” the language of music through singing, movement, rhythm, instrument play, and lots of interaction with you.

And here’s something important for new parents to know: We don’t expect your baby to “do” anything!

Your baby's job is simply to take it all in.

Your little one may sit quietly on your lap and watch. They may stare at the teacher. They may crawl around, bounce, smile, babble—or seem completely unimpressed by all of us!

It’s all perfectly normal.

Even when babies appear to simply be watching and listening, they are busy learning, processing, making connections, and developing their musical abilities. And just as importantly, they’re sharing a wonderful bonding experience with you.

So relax, sing, move, play—and let your baby experience the music in their own way.

Trying Class With a 2- or 3-Year-Old? Here’s What to Expect

Two- and three-year-olds bring lots of personality to music class—and we love it!

Your toddler may jump right in and sing, dance, shake instruments, and copy everything the teacher does. Or they may spend their first class sitting close to you and quietly watching. They may participate in one song and wander during the next. All of that is completely normal.

At this age, children learn a tremendous amount through watching, listening, experimenting, moving, and imitating the grownups they love. There is no pressure to perform or participate in a certain way.

In fact, one of the best things you can do is participate yourself! Sing, dance, clap, be silly, and enjoy the music. You are your child’s most important musical role model. When they see you having fun, they learn that making music is something joyful that your family does together.

And don’t worry if your toddler doesn’t follow every direction. This isn’t a class where we expect 2-year-olds to sit perfectly in a circle for 45 minutes! We understand toddlers. Our classes are designed to give them opportunities to move, explore, play instruments, interact with others, and experience music in developmentally appropriate ways.

You may also be surprised by what happens after class. A child who barely participated may suddenly sing part of a song in the car or recreate an activity at home. They were listening all along!

Most importantly, come ready to relax, participate, and have fun together. There is no “right” way for your child to experience their first Music Together class.

At Tracie's Music Together, we are proud to offer the early childhood music program Music Together^®. Since 1987, Music Together has introduced millions of children, parents, and teachers around the world to the  powerful benefits of having music in their lives. Your Role Is Essential

You are your child’s most important music teacher right now! Young children learn through play and experimentation and by watching and listening to the grownups they love. Setting an example as an enthusiastic participator in music activities is the best thing any parent or caregiver can do to help set a child on the road to a lifelong love of music. Parents don't need to have music skills—they just need a desire to play and have fun with their children! Our teachers are specially trained to create a safe atmosphere so you can happily join in, experiment, or even get silly—and feel closer to your child while doing so.

Wiggling, singing, and laughing with your child is so much fun, it's easy to forget how much learning is taking place! Our research-based curriculum not only develops music skills, it nurtures creativity, self-expression, and confidence while also supporting social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
